Patient Voice Panel Welcome Event
On May 24th 2017 we held our Patient Voice Panel welcome event with members to discuss key health issues and initiatives.
Patient Voice Panel members were encouraged to give us their thoughts on healthcare in Walsall and how they would like specific areas to be improved. We began by discussing how NHS Walsall CCG shares information with our Patient Voice Panel members on engagement events throughout the area. We made a commitment to share feedback with our members in various ways (website, email or by post) and continue to regularly share outcomes of events and keep them informed of our consultation and engagement plans.
The members also discussed what other CCGs are in Walsall’s benchmarking group. We were able to provide members with a list of ten CCGs that are most demographically similar to ourselves. This information is used to identify realistic opportunities to improve health and healthcare for our population.
The issue of mental health problems amongst young carers due to being overlooked was another key item raised. We were able to provide the members with Walsall’s Children and Young People Partnership Group’s Young Carer’s Strategy which prioritises supporting young carers to enable them to identify their own needs and reach their potential. We were also able to provide information on who sits on the Safeguarding Board, including figures from the Walsall Safeguarding Children Board and the Walsall Safeguarding Adult Board.
Financial issues relating to Walsall CCG’s overall spend for the year and how much money goes to the Manor Hospital were also mentioned during the event. Members were informed of our overall planned expenditure for the 2017/18 year, as well as our plans for acute care and community health services.
What is the Patient Voice Panel?
The Patient Voice panel is an exciting new way for local people to work with us to better understand and help to shape local health services. There is also an opportunity to share your experience of using local healthcare services. We want people of all ages and backgrounds. The information we ask you to provide when you register will help us to ensure our membership represents a true cross-section of local people.
