Extended GP and Healthcare Professional Appointments

NHS Walsall Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is advising local residents that if they become unwell over the holidays GP and healthcare professional appointments will be available over Christmas and New Year. Pre-booked appointments to see a GP or healthcare professional in Walsall can be made at one of four Extended Access Hubs by calling 01922 501999.

The Extended Access Hubs will be open throughout the festive holiday, including Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Please see the graphic below.

The NHS is also reminding people if they have a minor illness like a cough, cold, aches and pains, that they can self-care at home or visit a pharmacist. Most pharmacies will have reduced opening hours over the bank holidays but some will be open on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. For Pharmacy Opening Times, please click here.

Dr Anand Rischie, GP at Pleck Health Centre and Chair at NHS Walsall Clinical Commissioning Group said: “Like any other day of the year people can become unwell so it is important that they know what health services are available over Christmas and New Year. Most health issues people experience this time of year can be dealt with at home or by seeing their pharmacist, GP or healthcare professional. If you are unsure of which service you need, you can always contact NHS 111 to speak to a trained advisor. It’s important that people only use A&E services for serious issues.”

Pharmacies

As the Christmas holidays approach it’s important to remember that not all pharmacies will be open over the whole Christmas period.

Patients can save time in the waiting room by visiting their pharmacist for quick, confidential advice on a range of common illnesses.

Kiran Patel, Medical Director at NHS England (West Midlands), said: “Your local pharmacy can help you with more than you might think. Pharmacists offer expert, confidential advice and treatment for many minor health problems.

“We would also like to remind patients to order any medication they need from their GP surgery in plenty of time so they have a good supply during the bank holidays.”

Please see the graphic above for an extensive list showing which of our Pharmacies are open across the December and January bank holidays.
